Title: High Frequency GaN Converters for Distributed Power Systems
Abstract: Data center is growing at a rate of 20% annually in the past decade. With increasing cloud computing and big data, it is expected that data center alone will consume 10% of the total electricity by 2020. For future data center, the distributed power conversion devices have to be very efficient and with high power density to be compatible with core processors, memories, et al. Present power conversions devices are operating at 50-100 kHz with a power density less than 50 W/in3. An order of magnitude power density improvement is necessary for the wide spread use of the distributed power for all computer servers and data centers.
